The room is torn up and the table is in the way
A flooring change, a basement finish or a house that is not ready yet all leave the same problem: a pool table that has to be somewhere else for a while. Under a drop cloth in the middle of a work zone it gets scratched, bumped and buried in dust. In a garage or shed it sits through damp and temperature swings, and wood rails, frames and cloth are the parts that suffer for it.
Slate itself is stable, but it is heavy and brittle, and leaning pieces against a wall or stacking things on top of them is how an edge chips or a piece cracks. A table that comes through a renovation damaged has been hurt by the room, not the game, so the question is less whether to store it than where.
