Pool table moving: taken down, moved and set back level

Room to room or town to town, Steve takes the table down, moves it, and sets the slate back level, usually in one day or on a schedule that suits you.

Why a pool table can't just be rolled across the house

A slate table is a stack of heavy pieces held in a frame, not a single object. The slate alone is too much for a couple of friends and a dolly, and it does not forgive being tilted on a stair or knocked in a doorway. A chipped edge or a hairline crack is a repair bill, and a bent frame never plays true again.

The reasons people call Steve in Newburgh are usually ordinary ones. The floor is being replaced, the family is moving across town, or the table is in a basement that is getting finished. What they have in common is that the table needs to come apart and go back together, and the going back together is where most of the skill is.

Taken down by Steve, set back level

Whether it is room to room or town to town, the job runs the same way. The table is taken apart, the slate comes down, and everything travels in the order it needs to go back. At the new spot the frame goes up, the slate is set and re-leveled, and the cloth is laid back out.

Steve can usually do a move in one day, or he works with you on a schedule that suits. If the room is not ready when the table is, there is climate controlled storage at the shop, and the table waits there for as long as it needs to. You can read how that works on the storage page.

A move is also the natural moment to deal with the cloth. The felt is already off the slate, so a table that was due for a recovery can have one now, with every fitting checked while the frame is apart. Two customers have written about exactly that combination: a move and new felt in one visit.

What skipping the level costs

A table set back on a floor that nobody checked will roll every slow shot toward the low corner. The seams between slate pieces can show through the cloth, and the pockets stop playing evenly. Most of the damage from a bad move does not appear on the day. It appears three weeks later, when everyone has started to blame their own stroke.

Floors in a new house settle, and a basement slab is rarely as flat as it looks. If your table starts to drift after a move, call Steve at (845) 597-5532. Before any move, it also pays to check the destination room against the room size chart, so the table and the cue length you play with both fit.

Before you book the day, measure the room you are moving to against the room size chart. If the table needs new cloth while it is apart, start with the recovery quote form, or read about recoveries and climate controlled storage. For a move date, tell Steve about the table on the contact page.
